Numerous monasteries, wealthy merchants and settlements
dating back 8,000 years have left their mark on the town. In the centre of Straubing a generous market square - used for centuries by farmers and gardeners to sell their produce - invites visitors to stroll around.
Between cosy cafés and traditional style inns you will find attractive shops. As well as cultural events, history and restaurants there are also spots of unspoiled nature to discover in Straubing. The Danube flows right through the city, and to the west you will find the only zoo in Lower Bavaria, featuring over 1,000 wild animals.
